THE SAFEST SLEEPING POSITION DURING PREGNANCY

As my tummy grew bigger, it became increasingly hard to get a comfy position to sleep as my favourite position to sleep was on my back, however i couldn't do that because according to research, it's not safe to sleep on your back because the weight of your uterus rests on your spine and major blood vessels as such it can block out oxygen supply to your baby and aggravate back pains, cause blood pressure to drop which in turn can lead to dizziness.

It is thus advised that you sleep on your side preferably your left side because it boosts blood flow and could help in reducing swelling in the legs(this doesn't mean you can't sleep on your right side).

Tossing and turning in a bid to get a comfortable position to sleep is what contributes to insomnia in pregnancy,so to get comfy while sleeping, you can get yourself a pregnancy pillow that is designed to provide sleep comfort while you're pregnant. It addresses the sleeping position problem associated with pregnancy(see comfy mama pregnancy pillow on main page)

To get your beauty sleep while pregnant, consider the following tips

1.while water is important during pregnancy, limit your intake at night to prevent frequent urination
2.to prevent heartburn, eat small and frequent meals and eliminate if possible or minimise to the barest minimum, your intake of fried and spicy food
3. A dark, ,quiet and cool temperature environment can encourage dleep
4.stretching your muscles before sleep can prevent leg cramps
5.keep active.taking walks or doing safe pregnancy exercises(check with your doctor to ensure it is safe for you).
