THE BEST NURSING POSITIONS FOR YOUR BABY
Breastfeeding is a natural process designed by God for a mother to feed, nourish and bond with her baby but it doesn't come naturally for most women especially for first time mothers. I for one had to struggle with the nursing position that best suit my baby and I,yet again, information to the rescue, I researched and researched until i found the best position that worked for my baby and I.
In view of the dilemma I faced here, I'd like to share with you, relevant information on the best nursing positions and what works best for whom.happy reading

DIFFERENT BREASTFEEDING POSITIONS
CRADLE HOLD:This is the most common position but it's best used for older babies that have control of head and neck movement and that can latch on easily.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION
1.ensure your back is supported by a pillow
2.put the top of your baby's neck in the crook of your hand
3.baby's tummy should be against your tummy.
4.while you're holding your breast to your baby's mouth, ensure your hand Is not touching the areola as this could affect how your baby latches.
CROSS CRADLE:this position Is best for a newborn until he has learnt to latch on properly.with
this position a mother can guide her baby to latch on properly as seen in the picture above
This position is best for women with large breasts, small babies and inverted nipples.
INSTRUCTION FOR THIS POSITION
1.your hand should support the length of your baby's back
2.your baby's head should be supported with your thumb and forefinger just behind his ears.
3.baby should be held tummy to tummy
FOOTBALL HOLD:this is best for women who just had a cesearean and those have an overflow of milk (also known as heavy letdown)large breast and premature baby.
INSTRUCTION FOR THIS POSITION
1.you need a pillow to support your baby (see comfy mama nursing pillow)
2.your baby should be at breast height.
3.make sure your shoulders are relaxed.
4.your baby should be resting on your forearm, turked under your arm
SIDE LYING POSITION:when you're tired and feeling too sleepy to sit upright to breastfeed your baby, this is the best position for you.
INSTRUCTION FOR THIS POSITION
1.lie on your side and support your head and back with pillows
2.lie next to your baby, tummy to tummy
3.when your baby is latched on, you can use your lower arm to support your head.
GENERAL TIPS FOR BREASTFEEDING YOUR BABY
1.tickle your baby's lips to get him to open his mouth wide
2.baby should have all of the nipple and most of the areola in his mouth
3.if your baby's lip is curled in, you can pull out his lips for better latch on.
4.use a nursing pillow for better support while breastfeeding
5.burb your baby after each feed to avoid gas and indigestion in your baby.
6.eat a balanced diet for proper nourishment of your baby.
