HELPING YOUR INFANT TO DEAL WITH GAS

As a result of hyperlactating I was faced with the issue of foremilk and hindmilk imbalance (see post on the ABC of your baby's poop to see explanation on foremilk and hind milk imbalance) consequently my baby filled up on the foremilk which is high in lactose and this made him very gassy and fussy.when my breasts filled, I just kept feeding my baby in ignorance and the more he eats, the fussier he became and he showed colic like symptoms. As a concerned mum, I met a pediatrician and he simply dismissed it as colic and that there's nothing I can do till he outgrows it.

I wasn't satisfied with his diagnosis so I took to researching his symptoms online, different diagnosis popped up that made me assume the worst so I simply narrowed down and refined my search and good enough i came across the experiences of other mothers who faced the same situation I faced and coupled with further research, I realised he was fussy because of gas caused by my hyperlactating.

I applied the suggestions I offered in the post COPING WITH HYPERLACTATION and this helped a great deal in reducing the excess milk production(this is the first step to eliminating gassiness in your baby). The essence of this post is to give you insight to help allieviate your baby's gas pain that results from either hyperlactation, colic or other probable causes.Below are the tips I applied with my baby:

1.feed your baby in an upright position

2.burp your baby after each feed

different ways to burb a baby

3.Do not put him to sleep immediately after feeding, keep him in an upright position for about 20 to 30 minutes before laying him down to sleep.

4.Place your baby in an elevated position to sleep.

5.Do infant massage targeted at alleviating gas pains(see you tube videos that shows how to give your baby massages to remove gas)

6.Take care not to tighten your baby's diapers so as to prevent gas cramps from built up gas.

7.If your breast is too full by the time your baby is hungry, express most part of the foremilk which is high in lactose and causes gassiness in babies .

8.Place a warm cloth over your baby's tummy to help alleviate cramps that occurs as a result of gas build up.

9.Place your baby on his tummy as a little pressure on his tummy can ease the passage of gas but if he gets uncomfortable and starts crying, raise him up.

10.To reduce gas, a mother can also give consideration to her diet to see if what she's eating could be aggravating her baby's gas problem.research shows that diary foods, citrus fruits, nuts and  carbonated drinks can cause gas, so if possible, eliminate these foods from your diet for a while to see if there's any improvement.

11.  Baby wearing can also help as your baby is in an upright position as such, gas does not remain in system as he's able to effectively pass out gas

There could be more tips and suggestions on how best to deal with your baby's gas but these are the tips that i have applied over time and works for my baby.so if you have suggestions on how you've effectively coped with your Infant's gas, please feel free to share to help mothers that may be in dire need of your suggestions.
